Saxony-Anhalt (Sachsen-Anhalt in German) is a Bundesland in north central Germany. It is one of the new federal states created from the GDR when Germany reunited in 1990. Formerly the industrial heartland of East Germany, this is the worst polluted area in Germany. Wittenberg, the site of Martin Luther's historic nailing of Theses resides here. In addition, Saxony-Anhalt is home to Dessau and it's Bauhaus art school.
