Sadowa, a village on the Bistritz, in Bohemia, not far from Königgrätz. It is celebrated as the scene of the preliminary engagement, on July 3d, 1866, between the Austrians under Benedek, and the Prussians under Prince Frederick Charles, which culminated in the decisive battle of Königgrätz and the Austrian defeat.
