Saccopharynx, a genus of Muraenidae, with a single species, deep-sea conger eel, of which but few specimens have been observed. It inhabits the depths of the Atlantic, is perfectly black, and about 9 feet long. It has a large pouch-like head and pharynx, hence its name.
