Secure Border Gateway Protocol is some "add-ons" to BGP (RFC1771) to enable strict security.

Three security countermeasures is proposed:

  1. Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
  2. Attestations (digital signatures in UPDATE messages)
  3. IPSec
BGP routers should be able to prosess S-BGP UPDATE messages without problems.
