American writer, 1891—1976. The Second Royal Historian of Oz. A staff writer for the children's magazine St. Nicholas as well as editor of the children's pages of the Philadelphia Ledger, she caught the attention of Oz publisher William F. Lee. After L. Frank Baum's death, she was chosen to continue the Oz series. From 1921 to 1939, she created a new Oz book every year. She wrote more Oz books (21) than Baum did (14).
