Rust Red Flour Beetle (Tribaliaum Castoneum)
This beetle can be recognised by the wide round ends of its antennae which almost look like table tennis bats. It is found in broken grain dust, flours or meals and is fairly easy to see in flour due to its reddish brown colouring. The eggs of this beetle are laid in flour and camouflaged by being sticky and lightly coated in flour. In approximately 9 days yellowish larvae emerge which feed until mature and then pupate, emerging to continue the cycle. The life cycle of the beetle is between 2-4 months dependent on weather conditions.
