Legendary boxing match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. Took place in Zaire on October 30, 1974.
Though Ali was heavily favored by his fans in Zaire, many observers and commentators feared he would be badly beaten and humiliated by the younger, larger, stronger, undefeated Foreman, but Ali employed his rope-a-dope strategy to wear Foreman out, then knocked him down in the eighth round to win the bout.
It's considered one of Ali's most important fights -- it helped establish him as a charismatic fighter whose greatest strengths were his speed, his endurance, and his use of intelligent strategy -- and it made him boxing's greatest icon.
