An innovative project in Calgary, Alberta where the entire C-Train line operates on electricity produced from wind power.

How it works: The C-Train system requires X amount of electricity. A wind farm in Pincher Creek, Alberta produces electricity and feeds it into the provincial power pool. Calgary Transit buys X amount of power from the wind farm.

The electrons from the wind farm aren’t physically connected to the C-Train’s overhead power lines, however, when the trains run slow, people joke that the wind mustn’t be blowing that day.

The Ride The Wind project is the first and, as of now, only public transportation system that is 100% emissions free.
