The marginally successful spin-off of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. It starred Valerie Harper as Rhoda Morgenstern Gerard, who had formerly been Mary Richards' best friend and neighbor, until she moved from Minneapolis back to New York City.
The show was originally about the marriage between Rhoda and husband Joe Gerard (played by David Groh), but the couple divorced early on in the series, and the show became more about Rhoda's parents and her sister, Brenda (played by Julie Kavner, who now provides the voice of Marge on the Simpsons).
Lacking the innocence and variety of characters found on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "Rhoda" never captured the same spirit that made "Mary" so irresistible.
