The Punch and Judy show was a popular form of entertainment in
England around the nineteenth century. The main character is a
puppet called
Punch who is a rather
malevolent human being: he kills his infant child and then beats his wife (
Judy) to death and proceeds to kill anyone else who is an annoyance.
Punch is a rotten person, but the show is highly amusing.
