Mexican dictator, in power from 1876 until 1910. A really bad man who brought calm and peace to México at the cost of individual freedoms. Assumed power under the mantle and motto of "Valid voting, no Re-election", but was himself guilty of re-election. His power was relinquished after he saw that he could no longer govern the Republic, thereby awarding the presidency to Francisco I. Madero (who had been Díaz's opponent in the election of 1910, a fraud-filled election). Díaz then sailed away into European exile, while Madero tried his best to control the numerous armies that were still fighting to "overthrow tyranny."
