The Pluto Platter is just an early prototype of the Frisbee. After his first few attempts at creating a plastic flying disc (the "Arcuate Vane model" or "Rotary Fingernail Clipper" and a more rigid version, called the "Pipco Crash"), Fred Morrison finally got it right in 1951 with the Pluto Platter. This feat of engineering eventually won Morrison the privilege of being remembered on certain encyclopedic sites on the web, among other things. His '51 Platter served as the template for all future discs, and it would also make a pretty cool band name.
