Pins and
needles can be used to describe the sensation of one's
limb going to sleep. This is likened to being stung repeatedly by small, sharp objects. The sensation is actually that of blood loss as the body pumps blood back into the deprived limb.
Needles and pins are also objects used in sewing to work thread, or to hold fabric in place.
