French politician. Born 1754, died 1835.

Pierre Louis Roederer was elected to the Estates-General in 1789.

In 1792, immediately prior to the storming of the Tuileries by the Parisian mob (August 10, 1792), he tried to persuade Louis XVI to seek refuge in the legislative Convention.

Roederer was a participant in Napoleon Bonaparte's coup d'état (November 9, 1799) and was a significant member of the privy council after the coup.

Upon the Restoration, he fell (quite naturally) into disfavour - but under Louis Philippe, he climbed once more to eminence.

It's a bit hard to keep track of the number of different horses that Roederer backed. He seems to have been a political proteus - ever willing to change his politics to match the exigencies of the moment.
