Phuket Island also has beautiful scuba diving. However, some precautions are required. Medical care in the area is not very good, and most travelers are advised to take their own syringes.
Standard travel insurance will not cover medical evacuation from Thailand. The last time I checked medical evacuation from Phuket island starts at $250,000. So, purchase additional insurance, specifically for Phuket.
I had planned on going diving there, but given the very high AIDS rate there, the limited medical care and the costs, I chickened out. No use being a fool - and I can't afford such foolishness!
