In inbound call center terminology, a phantom call is when an agent recieves a call where there is no customer on the other end. Phantom calls are usually caused by the switch having a brain fart and not recognizing when a customer hangs up. Great for bringing down your average handle time.

Also known as, where I work, at least, a ghost call. Great for bringing up the number of calls you take, too, if that sort of thing is important where you work. Sometimes also caused by the caller just not saying anything into the phone or having a phone that doesn't really work, too.
