The name, originating as an aristocratic name, is derived from the Greek Patricus, meaning "of the nobility.
Strangely enough, Patricia, the feminine form of Patrick, did not evolve in Ireland but in Scotland in 1750. Queen Victoria's granddaughter, Princess Patricia of Connaught brought great popularity to the name.
