Παν語
(If you can't read that, you should use Pango!)

From Greek pan = "all", Japanese go = "language"

Pango is a framework for rendering character glyphs and glyph arrangements, of various sizes, shapes and complexities, based on Unicode encodings, into bitmaps that can be used to display the text in question wherever you want to display it in.

It is particularly associated with GTK+ and GNOME but, of course, has nothing specifically to do with that - you can use it anywhere you wish to.

The person behind it is Owen Taylor.
