PSR 1257+12 is a pulsar star and is located in the constellation Virgo. A pulsar is a start that has gone supernova. This was the first star that was discovered of its type to have extrasolar planets revolving around it.

This star has three planets in orbit. There is speculation planets may have existed prior to the supernova and stripped barren due to the explosion however it is said to be more likely that that these planets were created from the remnants of the star after its explosion. The discovery of the planetary system has been accredited to Doctor Alexander Wolszczan in 1992.
