courtier at the court of King Claudius in Shakespeare's Hamlet.

King of Northumbria (718-729)

The second of the conspirators who murdered Osred in 716, Osric succeeded his partner in crime, Coenred on the latter's death in 729. He was probably a son of king Aldfrith and therefore brother to the departed Osred.

Despite his eleven year reign, we know next to nothing about him (Bede provides no information) other than that he selected Coenred's brother, Ceolwulf as his successor before he died in 729.
