During the last few days before finals at my high school, it was a common practice for a number of teachers to read this Dr. Seuss story to their outgoing senior students as a way to commemorate their departure into the big bad world.

Woe be for those who had emotional teachers or prone to dramatic overacting, for they would often begin to cry during the telling of the story. More woe be for those who had boring teachers, for they would suffer through a monotone retelling (remember Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller's Day Off?). The most woe, though, went to those who had multiple teachers who would independantly read the book to them for a total of four times in the space of a day, and thus would have the (mis)fortune to hear about the Places You'll Go and commit it to memory.
