In the book of Genesis, Noah is said to have been the head of the one righteous family in a world of sinners. For this reason he was given warning of a flood sent to destroy everyone else, and the opporunity to build an ark and save a pair (or seven pairs) of each species of animal to repopulate the world along with him and his family.

Noah's ark. (a) Zool. A marine bivalve shell (Arca Noae), which somewhat resembles an ark, or ship, in form. (b) A child's toy, consisting of an ark-shaped box containing many different wooden animals.
