Used primarily by the Irish, this is a mildly derisive term for an American-born descendant of immigrants, especially when directed at someone who conspicuously claims some sort of mystical connection with the homeland of his or her ancestors. The implication of the term is that the soft, pampered lifestyle of the United States has left the subject unfit for the realities of the harsh, labor-oriented lifestyle endured by his forebears.
