NL: is the trashcan, the chredder or the /dev/null of VMS systems. That is, a devic which swallows any data given to it. At VMS shops, it bears the same connotations as does /dev/null at UNIX shops. That is, in jargon, it means a notional 'black hole' where you may send anything you don't want, as in 'I redirect all advertisement to NL:'. Also, it is used in some electronic conference systems as the name of a discussion group for chatting about nothing particular.
