My crew was as carefully chosen as the disciples of Christ, and I will not tolerate stowaways

(Hernan?) Cortes, to Tulio and Miguel; The Road to El Dorado.

If you read the Gospels you'll see this is a rather strange thing to say. Why? Just look at how "carefully" Christ chose his Apostles:

Or, in the words of the big J himself: "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance" (Mark 2:17).

So either Cortes had a distorted image of the pre-calling Apostles and Jesus' recruiting policies or he meant to say his crew was entirely recruited from common men. Given the context, I vote for the former.
