A basket for carrying a baby. A very fancy Martha Stewart kind of accessory. So named because of its similarity to the sort of basket you might use to abandon your baby in the Nile river. I'm told it's a very Victorian thing to carry about, but the OED shows no uses of the term earlier than 1945.
