A special type of video camera tube that produces a fixed, monochrome image. The source pattern is imprinted on an aluminium plate engraved with carbon particles.

The most famous monoscope image was the Indian Head Test Pattern (TK-1C) made by RCA in 1938. It was used for off air broadcast in North America from 1947 to the late seventies.
