Mike Stephen Portnoy was born on April 20, 1967. His father was a rock DJ,
and he was exposed to music at an early stage.
Portnoy picked up drumsticks when he was about 7, and hasn't looked back
since. He is mainly autodidact. He was awarded a scholarship to Berklee,
but dropped out to play with a little band called Dream Theater....
He is married to Marlene, and has two children; Melody and Max John
