Primarily known for its prestigious engineering program, Michigan Technological University is located in Houghton, Michigan, in the very north of the Upper Peninsula. Its rival is Northern Michigan University, which is located not too far away (at least in terms of U.P. relativity) in Marquette, Michigan.

My father being an alumnus of Northern, I favor that school. Upon occasion I get to hear samples of insults toward students of Michigan Tech, such as the age-old "Michigan Tech, where the men are men, the women are few, and the sheep are scared." And there is always the classic, simple, "Michigan Tech, where the men are men, and so are the women."

These are references to the very few women that end up attending MTU.
