Play (1934) in 2 acts by Jacques Deval and Roger Fernay
based on the (same name) novel by Deval. Music by
Kurt Weill.

The story is about a French girl who is kidnapped and
taken to Panama. To make money to return France,
she becomes a prostitute. When she finally has earned
enough money for a fare, she is murdered before the
ship leaves.

The play is rather sentimental due to Weill's
superb adaption of the Parisian caberet melodies.
The melody song 'J'attends un navire' became a theme song
of the French Resistance.
