The intersection of Route 11/30 and Historic Route 7A in Manchester Center, VT. Historic Route 7A runs north-south along the west half of the state. Route 11/30 runs east-west, but make a jog at Malfunction Junction; the west half is 50 feet offset north of the east half.

Contributing to the chaos that is Malfunction Junction:

• Historic Route 7A has right-of-way over Route 11/30.
• Most of the inns and bed and breakfasts are located to the south.
• Route 7 runs parallel to Historic Route 7A, about 1.5 miles to the east.
• Stratton Mountain, a popular ski resort, is located to the east on 11/30.
• There is a car dealership located on the west side of Historic Route 7A, where the west half of 11/30 would have been if 11/30 was straight.
• Lots of pedestrians walk around the area.

All of these factors make Malfunction Junction a place where a driver must be cautious and prudent; and those traveling via shanks' mare must cross the road carefully.
