Term used for one who graduates with honors from a university. Means "with great praise" in Latin, not "great with praise" as it may appear to be at first sight. The word magna modifies laude, not the student, or else it would become "magnus cum laude" for male students and by default, since masculine is always used for mixed/unsure gender.
