Μακεδων

The hero who gave Macedonia its name. There are many different versions of his ancestry. In some he was said to be a native; in others he was either a brother of Magnes, a son of Zeus and Thyia, or one of Aeolus' ten sons, or a son of Lycaon, or, finally, a son of the god Osiris, who was established by his father as king of Macedonia when Osiris conquered the world. In this last version, reported by Diodorus, Macedon was the brother of Anubis. He was dressed in a breastplate of wolf-skin and wore this animal's head as a mask on his face.
