The London Monarchs are a former World League of American Football and NFL Europe team, which played, as the name says, in London in the Wembley Stadium. They were one of the founding teams of the World League in 1991 and played in the European Divison. After they won the first World Bowl against Barcelona Dragons, they were the second to last team in the 1992 season.

Although the London Monarchs survived the two years 1993 and 1994, in which no World League was played and they even played one year (1998) in the new founded NFL Europe as the England Monarchs, they never had a winning season again. In the World League, which in fact was a European League, as all the American francises were abolished, of 1995-97 they had a 4-6 record.

After one horrible year in the NFL Europe, the team moved to Berlin and became the Berlin Thunder. Thunder became, after finishing last in 1999 and 2000, the World Bowl champion of 2001. History
