Lithuanian, like Latvian is a member of the Baltic group of the Indo-European family of languages. One should refer to yossarian's excellent write-up under Latvian for more information about this group of languages.

Like Latvian, Lithuanian makes use of almost unprintable characters in its orthography, viz.:

  • a, e, j, and u (with hooks);
  • c, s, and z (with reversed circumflexes);
  • u (with a breve accent); &
  • e (with a dot above it).
