"Limbo Rock" is a 1962 novelty song by rock and roll performer Chubby Checker. The song instructs the listener how to do limbo dancing, then a popular fad dance/party game in the US. It reached #2 on the Billboard Charts in 1962.

Chubby Checker was a talented and charismatic performer. He managed to put a lot of energy and charm into what was simple lyrics over simple music. Although he was from Philadelphia, he manages to put on a convincing Caribbean accent, at least for 1962. His role in the song is as much acting as singing, as he puts on an imitation of a caller encouraging people to go under the limbo bar.

The period between the first burst of rock n roll and the British Invasion was one of the creative low points for American music. Chubby Checker made several hit records in the early 1960s, and while listening to a song like this, I can appreciate his talent, I do wonder how much better he would have been at a more creative period for music.
