Some years ago, a good friend of mine suggested marketing Laser Diet Powder. It would be your standard herbal/chemical placebo miracle cure, but the marketing hype would emphasize the (false) idea that a "laser" is somehow involved (as in, for instance, cosmetic surgery, or whatnot). No actual falsification would occur; rather, the word "laser" would just be a part of the product name.

We all had a good laugh, and imagined all the gullible consumers snorting "laser powder" because it sounds so scientific.

Today I saw an ad for Guerlain's SuccessLaser, hailed as a "scientific discovery" and "technological innovation" in cosmetic care. Guess what?

It's a new wrinkle cream.

I'm guessing 50% snake oil, and 50% elixir of youth.
