Riding a motorcycle or scooter betwen lanes of traffic. Done by most motorcyclists, although many won't admit to doing so, as they think it makes them appear to be squidly. Quite legal in California, although the laws regarding it are vague.

While the laws in California are vague on the matter of lane splitting - Ha! That's an understatement - until recently, there have been absolutely no references to the act in the California Vehicle Code - there is now a reference.

CVC Section 21714(b)(2) described the act of lane splitting while explaing that it is explicitly prohibited for certain kinds of vehicles. Motorcycles are not included in that class. Interestingly, neither are traditional cars.

So, now we've got lane splitting on the books, and it's not to outlaw it for motorcycles!
