An 8-part
multi-timbral digital synthesizer with 8-voice
polyphony and a 61-note
keyboard. Released in
1987, it was
Korg's answer to
Roland D-50 and
Yamaha DX7 as well as their last
synth before the
M1.
The
sounds are generated by
FM synthesis with 2
oscillators. A few digital
effects -
delay (short/long/manual), chorus and flanger - are available to add more
depth to the sound. For
modulation, the DS-8 has a single
LFO switchable between the
sawtooth,
triangle and
square waveforms, also including
sample/hold. 2
ADSR envelope generators and two digital
filters are also included.
The DS-8 features
analog-style
slider controls for the filters, envelopes and LFO. A
joystick is used for
modulation and
pitch-bend. The keyboard is
velocity and
aftertouch sensitive.
100
user patches can be stored in the
internal memory, with another 100 by using a
128-bit expansion card. Full in/out/thru
MIDI support is featured.
