Kerbdog is:

Cormac Battle - Guitar/Vocals
Colin Fennelly - Bass
Darragh Butler - Drums

An alternative rock/metal band from Kilkenny, Ireland. Their heavy yet melodic and pop-sensitive sound has been likened to that of Helmet, the Pixies and Tad.

Formed in 1991, they were originally called Rollercoaster, and started out as a covers band made up of four school friends. They played material by the Pixies, Hüsker Dü, Sonic Youth and others. In 1992 they decided to change their name to Kerbdog and start writing their own material. The original line up was:

Cormac Battle - Guitar/Vocals
Billy Dalton - Guitar
Colin Fennelly - Bass
Darragh Butler - Drums

After much perseverance, the band eventually landed a record deal with Vertigo in 1993. They relocated to London and spent a year touring the UK with bands like Therapy?, Helmet and Ministry. During their time in London, the band lived in such poverty that they were forced to steal from grocers to eat.

While in London, they recorded their eponymous debut album produced by Jack Endino (Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney). It was released on Vertigo in 1994 and yielded the Top 40 single Dummy Crusher.

They followed their debut with the more commercially successful On The Turn, released on Mercury/Fontana in 1997. Produced by GGGarth (AKA Garth Richardson, he has worked with Rage Against The Machine, The Jesus Lizard and The Melvins) and recorded at A&M Studios in Los Angeles, On The Turn was a far more accomplished, polished record than it's predecessor. Bruce Dickinson's guitarist, Roy Z, played guitar on this album as a guest musician, and it was sometime during the recording of On The Turn that guitarist Billy Dalton left the band. His departure was due to his inability to cope with the stress of being in a band and was purely amicable. Following the release of this album, the band spent a short time touring in support of it.

In December of 1997, Kerbdog ceased to be. Dropped by their record label (who didn't treat them very well in the first place), they decided to call it a day. However, this was not the end of the line. In 1998, very shortly after the demise of Kerbdog, Cormac Battle and Darragh Butler, together with bassist Mick Murphy formed a new band, Wilt. While Wilt have abandonded the heavier, more aggresive elements of Kerbdog's sound, opting for a more commercially palatable style, they are nevertheless a worthwhile band. Cormac Battle still writes great songs. Wilt are currently signed to Mushroom records.

In late 2004, after an extended period of inactivity from Wilt, it was announced that Kerbdog had reformed and would be playing a number of reunion gigs around Ireland. Wilt are still together, and there has been no mention of any plans for the recording of new Kerbdog material, but Kerbdog's return to the live circuit was a welcome one and the reunion gigs sold out in days. It is unknown what is currently on the Kerbdog agenda, but who knows what could happen? Watch this space...
