Kathy Acker was a late twentieth-century post-modern author. Her style often employed appropriation of other's works. Her last book was Pussy: King of the Pirates.
In 1996, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a mastectomy. After which she abandoned modern medicine and went in search of a metaphysical cure. In 1997 she announced that she had been cured by a shaman in Latin America and died shortly thereafter in an alternative clinic in Mexico.
