An extraordinarily complex and decentralized organization, consisting of (amongst others) The Permanente Group, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals with the vague goal of providing somewhat affordable health care of a somewhat inconsistent quality to members primarily in California, but also in Oregon, Hawaii, Colorado, Ohio, Maryland, Georgia, and a few other states in the United States of America. Recently took on a new CEO, George Halvorson. Has an entrenched penchant for complicating simplicity and thereby creating employment for far more people than necessary for efficient operation of the business. More than 75% of Kaiser Permanente's employees are represented by labor unions.
