"KFOR is a NATO-led international force responsible for establishing a security presence in Kosovo. This peace-enforcement force entered Kosovo on 12 June 1999 under a UN mandate, two days after the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 1244 (UNSCR1244). In doing so, the international community showed its determination to resolve a grave humanitarian crisis in Kosovo and to provide for the safe return of all refugees and displaced people in the region."
