Founded in 1425, the K.U.Leuven is a Flemish University of catholic signature with an international orientation. It is the oldest catholic university of northern Europe. See also http://www.kuleuven.ac.be.

It is written in this silly way because kul is a Dutch word meaning rubbish. Note that this is not nearly as bad as what the name of the
university in Tilburg would be abbreviated to if they hadn't cunningly called it Katholieke Universiteit Brabant.
