You know what I would really like to happen today? I would love for everyone around me to shut the hell up. Just for one day, one precious day. Not in the sense of stifling thoughts, or in the sense of not being there, but in the sense of not feeling like they must constantly fill the air around me with things I am not ready for. I am not normally like this. Me, the reigning queen of meaningless chatter, finally wanting the unthinkable! Perhaps my body has suddenly become the vehicle for some new introverted person who would rather stare out a window than talk. Perhaps I am changing, or a shell of someone who has changed already.

Yes, this is my sole wish for today, and since today has yet to happen, it just may come true.

A funny thing:
My girlfriend and I were sitting on her couch. Actually, I was sitting on the couch, she was sitting on my lap. We were joking around. The following silly conversation ensued:

Kerrie: I hate you.
Me: I hate you too.
Kerrie: I'm going to break up with you. I'm never going to look at you again.
Me: You're sitting on me.
Kerrie: Yes, but I'm not looking at you.

At this point, Kerrie's mother (who was nearby, in the kitchen) burst into paroxysms of laughter and Kerrie and I gave each other a mischevious little glance and smiled. Mission accomplished.

wake up early, go to the radiologist for another sonogram of the gallbladder. this time they find a gallstone. ah ha. at least now i know there is a reason for the pain i feel. i headed back to my family practitioner and he, upon hearing about the gallstone, sends me for more tests at shady grove hospital. there they inject me with radioactive stuff and watch as it works it's way through my liver to my gallbladder and into the small bowel. execpt that it doesn't. it doesn't move beyond my gallbladder at all. a surgeon walks in and tells me that my doctor has asked him to check up on me. i'm in pain, i tell him. but it's not too bad. he takes a look at the radioactive stuff pooled in my gut and tells me the gallbladder has got to come out. ugh. ugh ugh ugh. when? it's not am emergency, he tells me. it can be done next week, and i don't have to miss my martial arts exam this saturday if i feel well enough to do it. the surgeon wants to see if he can get the gallbladder to function by injecting me with some hormone... so i get an IV inserted and a few minutes after the juice starts flowing into me the surgeon asks me how i feel.

OH MY GOD!

the biggest wave of nausea i've ever felt hits me, and i let him know that. i've never had nausea so bad that it made me cry. it was bad. fortunately i haven't injested anything but fruit smoothies in a long time... if i had eaten anything i'm sure the vomit would have been explosive and violent. then i started hurting a lot worse than i had been to that point. but on the plus side, it worked pretty quickly to move the radioactive stuff out of my gallbladder. getting everything out of there was apparently a good sign... i don't know if that positive result will preclude the need for surgery or not, but i sure hope so. i meet again with the surgeon tomorrow morning to find out for sure.

wish me luck.

afternoon

finally reached level 6! i am a Crafter! there is a picture on my homenode! tra la la!
My computer is seriously on the fritz, I think. My monitor keeps flashing every so often, and I've had many freeze ups, but no blue screens of death, oddly. Ah well, what're you going to do? If this monitor goes, I'll be kind of scr3w3d because I don't have another laying around any where..

This illness is still hanging around and has taken my voice away to some strange place, I can just barely talk, and I sound pretty comical. He-he. Ahh.. I wrote an everything2 will, just in case I don't pull through this most hideous of colds.

I cooked some spaghetti sauce today, which took much effort from my weak body, I even started sweating a bit while I was grating cheese. I think that's probably one of those big signs that you should be sleeping instead of trying to do things, when you start sweating while doing those really low exertion activities. I used an entire clove of garlic in the sauce, too, because my brain urged me to do so, insisting it might aid in my recovery. (I even minced it myself, Chef Hamster Bong!)

My ISP is being a complete piece of sh#*it, I think they implemented a disconnect when idle for more than five seconds thing.. well, I've got my e-mail checking every minute now, take that ISP! TAKE THAT! I wish that every ISP around here wasn't so terribly lame and/or expensive.

I've noticed everyone mentioning birthday and yossarian, and then it occurred to me that it's either his birthday today or some time in the near future/recent past (I do recall mention of it being this week.. I think). So.. happy birthday yossarian, you dreamy little human. If I wasn't feeling so terrible I'd think of something really neat to do in celebration..instead, I'll just stare off in the general direction of New York and think of some good wishes for the wind to deliver.

I go out this morning to return a video (South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, if you need to know) and on my way back, I hit the front tire of my bike on the curb...

Pop hissssssss.. ohshit

And there I was, hauling my bike home on my back, three miles through the suburbs. Ack.

  • Lunch with Y. A girl, blonde, cute, and about six years old stands up in the booth at our left. She clutches the ledge with tiny, magenta-tipped fingers, and sticks her tongue out at us, as in, she gave Gene Simmons a run for his money. Based on this, as well as a later occurrence of her trying to remove her tank top while back in the booth, lifting the front of her skirt while in line with her mother, and reiteration of the tongue incident, we speculated (strongly) that she would be a stripper one day, receive a consistent supply of gifts, and probably have a drinking problem.
  • Went to work although I wasn't scheduled. I did more reading on EIGRP and went through some tickets that were like hairballs of incompetence and idiocy. Noted again that people who prefer the gunslinging/pointing fingers method of career advancement are obvious and crude.
  • Bought The Manchurian Candidate and The Endless Summer on DVD for a friend's birthday.
  • I'm seeing certain positive changes from my dairy-free path.
I went in to work, and told my boss I would only be there for a couple hours.

The act of telling the CHENG about my grandmother brought the grief and shock back, and I it showed on my face, too. I took care of a few things, told my guys, and went home. When I got home, the kids were happy to see me, but curious.
"Why daddy home?",

the tadpole asked me. I brought the girls over to sit by me, and Jen took the boy off to his room. I explained to them, pretty much as my dad had to me, that granny had died in a car accident. One of them, the one who had been very close to my wife's grandmother before she died, took the news fine. The other, the sensitive one, cried, and had a harder time. Telling children that someone they know is dead is not a pleasant task. For a long time, wife and I bought replacement pets, or said that I "took them to work" instead of going through the hell of breaking their little hearts. I'm sure we've screwed them up by doing it, too.
