Judge Joseph F. Crater disappeared on August 6th, 1930 after telling friends he'd be attending the Broadway play "Dancing Partner" that evening. He was never heard from again. It was later found that earlier that afternoon he removed large numbers of papers from his personal files and cashed a large check. But here's the deal: nobody could think of any reason the judge might want to disappear. There was no motive for it. Subsequent investigations turned up no hint of an impending scandal. Judge Crater's disappearance remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of all time.
