Played by Peter Duryea, José Tyler was the navigator of the USS Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike in the pilot episode of Star Trek, The Cage (TOS). The young blond Duryea was no doubt being groomed for the impulsive sex symbol type role designed to attract young female viewers, the role latter fulfilled by Walter Koenig's Ensign Pavel Chekov on the show.
