Republican Senator from Nevada

Senator John Ensign was born March 25, 1958. He attended University Nevada, Las Vegas and earned a Bachelor's degree from Oregon State University. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 1985.

After graduation Ensign opened the first 24-hour animal hospital in Las Vegas. From 1987-1994 he owned the West Flamingo Animal Hospital , and from 1994-present he is the owner of, South Shores Animal Hospital, Las Vegas.

He is married to Darlene Sciaretta and has three children: Trevor, Siena and Michael.

He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives 1st District in 1994. In 1998 he unsuccessfully ran for U.S. Senate seat against Sen. Harry Reid. On Nov. 7, 2000 he had more success, being elected to U. S. Senate for the 107th Congress.
