I would be quite happy for men to hit women if there was a law saying that women could carry guns. Because then, if a man hit you, you could shoot him.
Jo Brand was born in Hastings in 1957, she is famed for being a comédienne with a less than conventional background. Her first job was working at Barnardo's home for children, before she moved to London to begin her career as a psychiatric nurse. Her particular brand (sorry) of comedy is that of "I'm fat, I eat cakes and chocolate, I love chocolate cakes. Men are stupid, but I'm fat which society seems to think is less acceptable". Although it's not always the most inspirational comedy (Giving credit where it is due, she can be very witty at times), she still won the 1995 British Comedy Award for Best Stand-Up Comic, and that's better than anything I've done.
She has had her own shows, Jo Brand Through The Cakehole and Hot Potatoes as well as making many television appearances including Have I Got News For You, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Absolutely Fabulous and, unlike most other comics, Question Time. Another television appearance was on Test the Nation, an interactive quiz show which was an attempt to test a 1000s of British people at one. As a gimmick, celebrities were also asked to take the test, of those that did, Jo Brand was the highest scoring (scoring a massive 87% on the current affairs question (hardly surprising given her intelligence and current vocation)). For all this however, she still prefers the thrill of working live.
In addition to her live performances and television appearances she has written two books, "A load of Old Balls: Men in History" (aka "A Load of Old Balls: A Ranking of Men in History") and "A Load of Old Ball Crunchers: Women in History" as well as co-writing a book with Helen Griffin titled, "Mental".
