Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is the name usually given in English-speaking lands to
J.S. Bach's orchestral-choral, (or piano, or organ, etc.) setting, in his Cantata, BWV 147 (Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben, written 1716). Also known as
Jesus bleibet meine Freude (Jesus remains my Joy) most people today would know it as Bach's famous triplet
melody because the name
Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring is also that given to the
melody in English/American hymnals as opposed any of the
hymns.
Overall a beautiful piece of music, one that has entered into popular culture along with Pachelbel's Canon and a few others to become a pop classic.
